Intensive Russian Strikes Cut Electricity Across Ukraine's Capital

Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's power facilities have faced increased strikes in the past few days

Throughout the evening, Russian missile and drone strikes have caused blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were wounded while local people in the city's east were plunged into darkness and dealt with problems to water systems, per reports from city officials.

Meanwhile, a minor was lost their life in a different Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southern area, as reported by local officials.

Russian forces has intensified attacks on electrical systems over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "substantial measures" from partner nations to exert influence on Moscow.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but strong steps - from the US, the EU and the G7 - in providing air defence systems and enforcing sanctions," he wrote in a social media post.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and over thirty missiles attacked energy facilities, labeling such strikes as "premeditated" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Government representatives said Russia was "launching a major assault" and technical staff were working to repair systems.

A wave of strikes damaged power facilities and residential structures in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people injured in the assaults on the capital have been taken to hospital, per statements from municipal representatives.

Area administrators said the city came under intense attacks overnight. A minor lost their life and three other people were hurt.

The strikes succeed nights of air raids in the area, parts of which are currently controlled by Russian forces.

All of Ukraine is on alert for advanced weapon attacks, which are harder to spot.

Government officials told journalists that Moscow was deliberately attempting to destroy the country's energy grid, with strikes already disrupting gas facilities.

Authorities confirmed utility staff and authorities were bracing for additional strikes.
